I am Mika Bell –
and I’m a counsellor, here to support you.
Why I do what I do:
I am passionate about supporting people in developing their self-awareness and insight into their life circumstances. Through my lived experiences and education, I have cultivated this passion and honed my skills in therapeutic interventions. A healing environment is born through the joining of two people where genuine listening is employed. It is through the combination of presence and evidence-based practice that opportunities for change and transformation can be facilitated. I have a particular interest in supporting clients to work toward post-traumatic growth, exploring relationship patterns, and finding ways to live a life aligned with their personal values.
How I got here:
I have completed a Bachelor of Counselling through the Australian College of Applied Psychology (PACFA accredited) and a Master’s of Social Work through Southern Cross University (AASW accredited and registered). I have worked with people from diverse backgrounds, and in various settings such as mental health services, hospital settings, harmful alcohol and other drug use services, out-of-home care, family and domestic violence, and sexual violence counselling. I have extensive experience working with trauma, anxiety and depression.
My practice approach:
My aim when working with you is to facilitate a therapeutic relationship through deep listening, non-judgment, professional integrity, authenticity, consistency, empathy, and compassion. As we work together, I will seek to uncover the best approach for highlighting your inherent strengths and resilience to move towards workable solutions for you. I take an integrative therapeutic approach to the counselling process, drawing on evidence-based models such as person-centred, trauma-informed, strength-based, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, psychodynamic, attachment theory, Motivational Interviewing, narrative, expressive and somatic theories.
